Hooray, Hooray! We are celebrating today! Homework
Please remember that homework is always optional. PTSO Spotlight
Request from The Teacher Appreciation Committee: We are excited to share with you a quick and easy way to help support our Teachers! The Teachers’ Lounge is in need of supplies to keep our Safekeepers strong as we approach the final and most strenuous part of the school year. Here is a link to SignUpGenius: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0444afac2ea4fe3-teachers Skip forward to February 24 and sign up! Every item you donate counts as 01 volunteer hour. Please do not forget to log your hours! It’s very helpful to the organization when we apply for grants! Every potential donor wants to know that we care and participate in our children’s school life. You are not going in today?! No worries - just hand your donation clearly marked “Teachers’ Lounge” to the staff at drop off/pick up and they will take it _______________________________________ Important Carnival Update: Please note the SASC WINGS PTSO Spring Carnival has a date change. Mark your Calendars to attend. Our 5th Annual Spring Carnival Friday, April 24. **NOTE THE DATE CHANGE** The Carnival Committee is meeting regularly to plan another incredible carnival for us. They are currently seeking corporate sponsors to help cover the cost of the venue. Know some college or high school students who need volunteer hours? Know an organization who had volunteers who could help? We are hoping for many outside volunteers to run the games and booths. The more outside volunteers we have, the fewer parents we need! If you know a company or organization who can help with either of these, please contact Amy Serles, Committee Chair at [email protected] __________________________________________ Each year WINGS PTSO (formerly SASC PTA) helps to support our 3rd to 6th grade scholars 'Rock the FSA', by providing healthy snacks, freshly pencils and erasers for every test they take! We need your help making this a possibility again this year! Please consider donating to our FSA SNACK FUND, every little bit helps! |
Field Trip
We're going on a field trip - and we couldn't be more excited! We will travel downtown and visit the Challenger Learning Center where we will continue our exploration of Space. K/1 scholars will have the opportunity to take on a space mission full of hands-on activities and the IMAX film Secret of the Cardboard Rocket. Scholars will need to bring a sack lunch. We kindly request that you pack your scholar's lunch in a Ziploc or brown bag. Sign the permission slip through the Script App by March 27th. Conferences Third Quarter Conferences are here! Please sign up using the link below. These are required conferences to check in on academic & social/emotional growth. Please let us know as soon as possible if these times/days will not work for your family. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080E49AFAB29A0F49-3rdnine2 Field Day Field Day! Time to get your Helpful Herd Spirit on! VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! OPTIMIST PARK Friday, March 13 SIGN UP HERE Sign up by March 9 Join us for a day of connections and games! Use this form to sign up to volunteer. We have slots available for preparing, managing, and cleaning up stations. You are welcome to sign up for two (or three!) consecutive slots if you want! If you have other family members who wish to volunteer, you may sign them up as well (must be at least 18 years of age). The plan is to have two volunteers at each station. The first volunteer slot begins at 9:00. The SASC Field Day committee will set up the materials and the 9 am volunteers will receive instructions of how to run the stations. The first group of volunteers will teach the next group. We have overlapped the slots so that there is time for the next group of volunteers to watch and ask questions before taking over. The first group of students arrives at 9:20 am. Students will rotate through stations. See the schedule below if you wish to volunteer while your child's class is at the park. Please note that each class will visit 6 of the 7 stations so there is a small chance that your child may not visit your station during the event. SCHEDULE Morning Rotations + Lunch = All K/1 classrooms + 2/3 Flamingos & Dolphins (FIRST AND SECOND VOLUNTEER SLOTS) Lunch + Afternoon Rotations = 2/3 Sloths & Ribbits + all 4/5 classrooms + Middle School (THIRD VOLUNTEER SLOT) School-wide lunch at the park 11:45-12:15 |
Welcome!
Welcome to our Class Family Website! This site will serve as our weekly newsletter, provide details about academics, share photos of the herd, and disseminate PTA information.
The Helpful Herd has had an amazing start to the school year! We learned so much about being a safekeeper at school and becoming part of a helpful class family!
This week we are focusing on getting to know our school family, conscious breathing to calm big feelings, and most importantly, safety. We say "we are your safekeepers and it is our number one job to keep you safe" and "Your job is to help keep it safe". We are learning all about commitments, wishing well, classroom routines/procedures, and one another. It has been a beautiful two days! To learn more about our practice of Conscious Discipline visit the website at consciousdiscipline.com.
We are learning 4 new ways to breathe this week when a big feeling takes hold of our body. S.T.A.R. (Smile. Take a deep breath. And. Relax.), the balloon, the pretzel, and the drain. Ask your elephant to model and teach you some of our new techniques. Throughout the year we will learn and create more breathings together as a class family. We have included a link below to a Shubert book, the Conscious Discipline mascot, in a story about being a S.T.A.R..

Ms. Ashley and I are thrilled to welcome you into our family, our herd. We are looking forward to a great year filled with milestones, school family bonding, and fun!
Here are a few reminders for the first week of school:
- Label everything your child brings to school with their name! (book bag, water bottle, lunchbox, sweaters, etc.) If things get lost, there is a lost and found in the front office.
- You may drop your child off from 8:30-8:45. The first week, you may want to bring them closer to 8:30 so they can get settled in. Tardies are marked after 8:50 am. It is so helpful to be on time and start the morning as smoothly and consistently as possible.
- Please include a healthy snack for your child. Our class will be having snack time around 9:20 each morning.
- In your child’s lunch, please pack everything your child needs (i.e., napkin, utensils). Teachers will be here to assist during lunch time, however, this is our lunch time too. Please ensure that food is packaged "kid-friendly" so that they can open it themselves.
- SASC school policy does not allow soda or candy to be served at school. If your child brings these items to school, they will be put back into their backpack to take home.
- Send a large Ziploc with a change of clothes labeled with your child's name. This will remain at school throughout the year and used as needed.
- If there is a change in transportation, please commit to letting the front office know as early as you can (2:15 at the latest). Transportation changes can be done online on the SASC website, under “Parent Tools”. The URL is below:
- Parent Pick-Up Info: If you are picking your child up from school, you must have a hang tag provided by the school. Your child will be escorted to the car. Students may also be picked up at the front office if you prefer to walk in to pick them up. Anyone without a hang tag must go to the front office with their ID to pick up their child.
- If your child is getting picked up by someone other than the parent or guardian before dismissal, the parent or guardian must email [email protected] giving permission (use must use the email address that matches your child’s clinic card).
Please do not hesitate to email me with any questions or concerns you may have. We are also looking forward to seeing you tomorrow night at the Social!
